4-8 March Sea days, rainy Hobart then The Sounds
At sea today, crossing the Bass Strait to Hobart. We kept
our eyes open for the sight of Flinders and Cape Barren Islands as we headed
south to Hobart.
Our days are mostly spent relaxing and reading, sometimes we
catch up with others we know on the cruise. Tonight we had dinner with two
other couples in Chops Grille, one of the specialty restaurants. Not very
impressed really. I’m not much of a meat eater, so I had salmon. It was
somewhat overcooked. As I was a bit under the weather with sinusitis
threatening, I did not finish it. The company was good though.
5th March – Hobart
RAIN! Awful weather. We had no fixed plans. I stayed on the ship as I was still feeling the effects of sinusitis. I had my antibiotics at the ready, but needed more Panadol. Ian ventured out and found a chemist. Inhaler was also on the list and I think this helped us both overcome some of the effects.
6 and 7 March we were at sea but the impending arrival into Milford Sound had everyone excited.
It was a smooth run into Milford. The weather was somewhat cloudy and by the time we left it was mizzling. Some cloud makes for a moody atmosphere and I think most on board enjoyed the visit. We were especially delighted with the Captain who steered the ship nose into Stirling Falls which, because of recent heavy rains, was falling beautifully.
The rain persisted through Doubtful Sound (our personal favourite) and Dusky Sound which was a pity for those who only have one shot at this visit.
Tomorrow, Dunedin.
